Gin-gredients

Is this gin suitable for vegetarians/ vegans?

We don’t have any official approval from either of the main Vegetarian or Vegan organisations. But, our gin is made only from spirit distilled from grain, fresh filtered, Scottish water and our blend of botanicals. It contains no animal, or animal derived products. We leave you to make your own mind up on suitability, but we believe our gin is suitable for vegans and vegetarians

What about allergens (nuts etc)?

There are no nuts used directly in our gin. Whilst we make every effort to ensure our products are nut-free, our suppliers may process nuts / nut products. As a result, we would not be confident in saying our gin is nut-free. Pink Peppercorns are distantly related to the cashew nut. Although there is no current UK legal requirement to list pink peppercorns as a potential allergen, we think it should be mentioned.

Cilantrophobes

Between 14 and 21% of the population have a genetic constitution which makes Coriander taste like soap – our gin is made with UK grown Coriander seeds.

Wherever possible, the main botanicals are certified organic (and batch traceable to each bottle of gin), certain gingredients are hand foraged locally whenever possible. All botanicals are transferred to glass storage jars on arrival. As part of our continual improvement program, we strive to either grow our own ingredients, or source them as locally as possible.
Smoked ingredients are smoked by us in home made equipment of course!

Process

From spirit to bottle – the spirit and botanicals do not contact any materials except – copper, brass, stainless steel or laboratory-grade glassware (and a minimal amount of food-grade silicone rubber in valve seals etc).

Energy

All energy is from 100% renewable sources.

Water

For most distilleries, cooling water for the condenser is the biggest water user. We don’t like waste, so we ginvented a closed loop, cooling system with a water / air heat exchanger so we don’t ‘use’ any water for cooling (except occasional topping up).

Bottle

Glass – readily recyclable. We offer a discount to anyone returning our bottles at an event, and are investigating how to do this by post.

Cork

Corks are made from wood of the cork oak tree. Being a natural product, it can under certain circumstances discolour the gin. To minimise the possibility of this, always store the bottle upright. If the cork does discolour the gin – it will not adversely affect the taste (we’ve tried it).

Wax

This is UK made, and not currently recyclable (that the manufacturer knows of). We are experimenting with reclaiming used wax to see if it can be re-used. If successful, we will invent some kind of return scheme. Does anyone have a good re-use for the wax?

Inner & Outer Packaging

Both are made from recycled cardboard. Readily recyclable with normal household collections. Or keep packaging to return the bottle in when we have a return mechanism in place.

Bag

Our bags are made from ‘NatureFlex’ – a compostable film made from wood pulp. It is certified to EN 13432 for industrially compostable packaging and the Vincotte OK Compost Home standard. It is GM free and sourced from managed locations using renewable, sustainable sources.

Tape

Is made from crepe paper and can be recycled along with the cardboard (instead of having to be removed before recycling).
